A Message from the Founder

Letter to NRIs

Managing a property from abroad is not just a logistical challenge. It is an emotional one.

It was 2 AM in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, back in 2007. My newborn was crying in the next room, and in two hours, my team at Motorola was scheduled to push a critical software release. I had a child who needed his father and a tight corporate deadline — and then the phone rang. It was a potential tenant interested in renting my property in Hyderabad.

After five years of working in the United States, I had finally saved enough to invest in a property back home. It was more than an asset; it was proof that the years of distance from my homeland meant something. But it had sat vacant for months as I struggled to coordinate across time zones. Now, a tenant was finally ready to move in, but on one condition: he refused to sign a lease and would only pay rent in cash.

I tried everything from that distance, but the only solution left was relying on my aging father-in-law, who had to travel five kilometers every month, knock on the door, and collect cash. I had built a career solving complex technical problems, but that night I realized there are problems you simply cannot solve from 10,000 miles away — property handling is one such. I know that feeling. I lived it.

When I finally moved back to India in 2013, I discovered that my father-in-law had been managing multiple family properties with paperwork that lacked any real legal structure or owner protection. I stepped in and started handling properties in American standards.

That was my lightbulb moment. This wasn't just my family's problem — it was a challenge shared by millions of NRIs whose properties back home are managed by well-meaning relatives, protected only by fragile paperwork. I was inspired by the professional, accountable, end-to-end property management companies in the U.S., realizing nothing like that existed in India.

In 2016, I quit my job to build what is now Servefar. What started as helping a few families quickly grew through word of mouth. Today, we are more than property managers; we are problem solvers. We give you the trusted, on-ground presence and advice you need to make informed decisions, and we execute them on your behalf.

A Career Built on Solving Problems. For over a decade in the United States, Gopal Kambhampati built a career in technology — managing complex projects, leading teams, and delivering results under pressure. But the one challenge that no professional training had prepared him for was personal: owning property in India while building a life abroad. He understood firsthand that significant family assets deserve more than good intentions and long-distance phone calls.

A Gap That Could Not Be Ignored. When Gopal returned to India in 2013, he saw what millions of NRI families were quietly navigating — properties of real value, managed informally, without professional structure or accountability. Well-meaning relatives were doing their best. But best intentions are not the same as professional oversight. He recognised the gap immediately — because he had lived on the other side of it.

The Inspiration. In the United States, Gopal had seen what professional property management looked like — structured, transparent, accountable, and end-to-end. A property owner could hand over their asset and trust that everything would be handled with precision. That standard did not exist in India for NRI owners. Not even close. Gopal decided it should.

The Company That Was Built to Help. In 2016, Gopal founded Property Handling — today Servefar — not because the numbers demanded it, but because the need was undeniable. He built a professional team and systems that put NRI owners in complete control from anywhere in the world. Today, Servefar manages over ₹1,400 Crores in NRI assets across Hyderabad — built on one belief: every Indian who owns property back home deserves a trusted, professional presence on the ground.
