Founder’s Message

Managing a property takes time and effort, but the ROI is often worth it. That equation changes when you're dealing with inconsistent rates and quality from craftsmen, an unorganized rental market, and dubious brokers. You juggle all this from a different time zone and to top it all off the judicial system is slow and heavy with bureaucracy. Is managing Indian property from abroad worth the ROI?

I don’t think thats the right question. Perhaps your parents built the property with two decades of their savings. Maybe you’ve invested in a high-growth corridor. It is absolutely worth the time  and effort to ensure your assets are well managed, but maybe not your time and effort.

During the summer of 2013, I along with my wife and children moved permanently to India after fourteen years in the United States. A couple months later, I was taking care of two houses owned by friends abroad who had invested into the same community. Two years later, while working a software job during the evenings and night, I was coordinating the management of around twenty villas owned by NRIs and PIOs in the same community. Then I started to receive calls from people.

With properties in other parts of the city.The conversations I was having took me back to 1 AM on a Wednesday in 2007. My newborn was crying in the next room. My team at Motorola was scheduled to push a software release in a couple hours.My tenant, in Hyderabad, was politely insistent that he would not sign a lease deed and would  continue to pay rent in cash only. My aging father-in-law would have to continue collecting it  from the tenant’s place at the tenant’s convenience. It felt like I was on the phone for much longer than I actually was.
 

In 2016 I quit my job and started what is now ServeFar, the organization I needed to manage my property back in 2007.I say with pride that we are property managers and problem solvers proven by a decade of serving
